Saicho Sparking Osmanthus
The newest addition to the SAICHO collection. Osmanthus is a delicate, aromatic sparkling tea featuring the prized osmanthus flower — Osmanthus Oolong begins its journey in the mist-covered mountains of Xianyou County, Fujian Province, China, where mineral-rich red soil and high elevations, around 800 metres above sea level, create ideal conditions for exceptional tea. Harvested in autumn, the Tie Guan Yin oolong is carefully harvested, and fresh osmanthus blossoms, gathered at dawn when their fragrance is at its peak, are layered over the tea in traditional bamboo baskets. Over 48 hours, the blossoms are replaced multiple times, allowing the tea to naturally absorb their golden aroma, creating a depth and complexity. Once perfectly scented, the tea is cold-brewed for 24 hours using English spring water to preserve its delicate aromatics and floral character. A gentle sparkle is added to create Saicho’s signature effervescent finish — a modern expression of an ancient Chinese tradition and a celebration of tea at its finest.
Scented with osmanthus blossoms, this Tie Guan Yin oolong tea from Xianyou County, China, has notes of apricot, cucumber, and custard apples. The delicate apricot notes complement roasted duck, seared scallops, and grilled sea bass, while its creamy undertones provide an elegant contrast to apple crumble or fresh goat cheese and honey. The delicate floral and stone fruit notes make it a wonderfully versatile pairing—its freshness lifts light seafood dishes like scallops, sashimi or ceviche, while its gentle sweetness complements fruit-based desserts such as apricot tart, poached pear or peach cobbler, especially when kept light and elegant

Saicho Sparkling Tea transforms every dining experience ...
In 805, Saicho returned to his Japanese homeland from a lengthy Buddhist retreat in Tang China. With him he brought, not only, the knowledge of a strange and exotic drink that the Chinese monks would use to prolong and enhance their lengthy meditation sessions but also the source of this mysterious drink - tea seeds.
Armed with this key meditational aid, Saicho founded the Tendai school of Buddhism. It was 5 long years from Saicho planting the first tea seeds in Japanese soil until the tea trees were ready to pluck but it was worth the wait! The Emperor Saga, on a visit to Saicho’s Sofukufi temple had one taste and loved it so much he immediately ordered tea trees to be planted in provinces all over Japan.
From there the enthusiasm for tea in Japan exploded and is now considered a core part of Japanese culture. Like their namesake, the Saicho Sparkling Tea company are on a mission to bring sparkling tea to the drinks receptions and dining tables of the world. Whether eating in a fine dining restaurant, enjoying a drink at a wine bar or just at home with family and friends we hope that our knowledge, passion, hard work and hands-on approach shines through in every glass.
